Expert Answers about Ram A-Frame Trailer Coupler

  • Best A-Frame Disc Brake Trailer Coupler Actuator
  • I do have an option for you but there is not a version of the Titan Zinc-Plated A-Frame Brake Actuator for trailers with disc brakes. The only a-frame trailer coupler we do offer for use with disc brakes is the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Lockout part # DM8105422 so this is what I recommend. In order to use this coupler with a 2-5/16" hitch ball you will also need the Demco Trailer Coupler part # DM15791-97. The Demco coupler will actually be an upgrade over the Titan coupler. It...

  • Option For Equipping Trailer With Hitch Ball Coupler & Pintle Hitch
  • Hi Daide, That's an interesting set up your client has there, and while we don't have anything specifically in that realm, there's an option for you by using channel-mounted couplers. So either of the following could work: - Demco 4-Hole Adjustable Channel Bracket - Weld On # DM66736 - Demco 50-Degree A-Frame Coupler - Bolt On # DM15349-52 So one would require removing the coupler currently on your client's trailer and either welding on the channel or bolting on the A-frame. From there...

  • Solution for Needing Replacement Latch for Atwood Coupler 88555
  • Hey Orlan there isn't a trailer coupler latch repair kit for an Atwood Trailer Coupler 88555 which is discontinued. Unfortunately, the only option is a full replacement for which I recommend the Demco A-Frame Trailer Coupler part # DM14793-81. This coupler can be bolted-on once you cut the old one off and it doesn't require the handle to be open while coupling.

  • Availability Of Repair Kit For A Fulton 5,000 lb 2" A-Frame Coupler
  • Hello Jason. Unfortunately we do not offer a repair kit specifically for the Fulton 5,000 lb 2" A-frame couplers. It is possible that the # CA-5100-RK repair kit would work, since the Ram models are quite similar to the Fulton. We have never tested this ourselves though, so I really can't say if it will or will not work. If your coupler is in need of repair, I would have to recommend replacing the coupler entirely with a new one. Something like part # CA5100B is a very similar 5,000 lb...

  • Availability of Demco 32 Degree A-Frame Couplers with EZ Latch
  • We currently have three versions of the Demco 32 degree A-Frame coupler but none of them are zinc plated. We have the part # DM15633-97 which is primered, the part # DM15633-81 which is powder coated black, and we have the part # DM15633-52 which is silver powder coated.

  • Do All Trailer Coupler Latch Repair Kits Fit All Couplers
  • There are quite a few A-frame style couplers out there so without more info I really couldn't confidently say if the repair kit part # T4045400 would work for you or not. If you see Dexter or UFP on the coupler and it's a multi fit style coupler with the knob like what this repair kit has it's probably correct though. The most straightforward solution would be a new coupler like the part # CA-5210-B to replace what you have now though as that would eliminate any guesswork and would give...

  • Is Repair Kit for Atwood 2" Top Mount Coupler with Flip Latch AT88051 Still Available?
  • Hey Linda, thanks for reaching out! The Repair Kit for Atwood 2" Top Mount Coupler with Flip Latch AT88051 has been discontinued for a while because Atwood went out of business. For your application we'll need to get you a new coupler and for that I recommend checking out the Demco A-Frame Trailer Coupler w/ Jack Hole # DM14793-81 because it has the eZ Latch system that makes it quicker to connect your trailer. This fits a 2" hitch ball and measures 10-3/4" wide at the innermost part of...

  • Fulton A-Frame Coupler Repair Kit
  • We only have two options for a Fulton A-frame coupler repair kit so I will list them for you here. The # F640801 fits the # F44305R0317 and # F44305R0500. The # F670801 fits the 44125W and 44150W series couplers. None of these are actually 14k so unless that is incorrect I don't think we have a repair kit. A lot of Fulton replacement parts have been out of stock for more than a year since they were acquired by First Brands so it is possible one exists and we don't have it right now. Some...

  • Recommended Replacement Hydraulic Actuator For An Atwood # 82654
  • Hey John, I wasn't able to find any info on the Atwood 82654, but I'm assuming because you were looking at a 2" coupler with a 7K capacity that's what your coupler is designed for. If this is the case then I recommend the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w Drop # DM8509612. This actuator is compatible with 50-degree A-frame trailers with hydraulic drum brakes and comes with a Bulldog coupler lock to secure the trailer fast and easily. It doesn't come with a reverse lockout so you'll need...

  • Can I Pull a Trailer w/ a 2" Coupler w/ the Flint Hill Goods Trailer Dolly?
  • Yes, it will! The Flint Hill Goods Trailer Dolly item # FHG24ZR will work just fine with your 2" coupler even though it has a 1-7/8" hitch ball. Due to how slow you would be moving and how light dollies are it's not important for the latch of the coupler to secure to it. You could swap out the hitch ball but you really don't need to.

  • Recommendation For a Off-Road Trailer With Coupler Taller Than Hitch Behind a Jeep Wrangler
  • I do have a recommendation for you that will eliminate the need for any extensions and adapters. I would recommend welding on the 2" Receiver # E17 to the bottom of the trailers A-Frame. Then you will be able to use the Lock N Roll Articulating Coupler # 336TS520 in your Jeep's receiver and then use the Lock N Roll Articulating Hitch # 336VS503505 on the trailer side. This hitch offers up to a 4" drop and with the receiver mounted under the trailer frame it should give you a nice level...

  • Could Demco 21k Coupler Replace Dexter A-160 Surge Coupler
  • Hey Bill, I checked out pictures of the mounting brackets of your Model A-160 actuator and the most similar straight coupler to it would be the Demco part # DM15931-95 that you were looking at. You should be able to get at least two of the bolts through it and your trailer tongue but worst case scenario you might need to drill additional holes.

  • Can The Convert-A-Ball Multi-Cushioned Gooseneck Trailer Coupler # CG Be Adjusted To Reduce Bounce?
  • The Convert-A-Ball Multi-Cushioned Gooseneck Trailer Coupler # CG does only allow for up to 3/4" so while this will help with road shock it does not help as much with the trailer bounce. Depending on your LQ horse trailer you would be able help reduce the bouncing you are getting with some type of Jounce Springs # SS26MV on your trailer or your tow vehicle. If you can send me some information about your tow vehicle and images of your trailer and the suspension I can help you determine...

  • How Many Bolt Holes Should Dexter Coupler Actuator DX89FR Use to Install
  • If you don't mind drilling Jeremy I would recommend using all three mounting holes of the Dexter Actuator part # DX89FR or if you know a welder just have them weld it to the trailer. If you were going to only use two though use whichever two line up best with the coupler slid as far onto the trailer frame as possible if that makes sense. That would put the least amount of leverage on the coupler.

  • Internal Dimensions Of The Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # DM13689-95
  • Hey Doug, The inside dimensions of the Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # DM13689-95 are 3" tall x 3" wide x 5" long (pictured below). The sides of the coupler don't need to fully cover the frame tube height-wise. As long as you have a 3" wide frame channel to mount to you'll be fine to drill through and bolt on the coupler with some of the frame extending below the coupler.

  • Replacement Surge Brake Coupler For a EZ Loader Boat Trailer With Disc Brakes and Obsolete A-50 Coup
  • Thank you for the pictures of your coupler. You are going to need to replace your entire surge actuator coupler as the A-50 is obsolete and we do not have any parts to repair it. We have the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX73FR which you can have welded in place of your current actuator. Or we do have the Dexter DX7.5L A-60XL Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX43FR which would be a better option since it will prevent the brakes from being activated when you drive in reverse. This...

  • Parts Needed to Switch a Trailer From Surge Brakes To Electric Over Hydraulic Brakes
  • First you are going to need either a Drum # DH54FR or Disc # DH94FR brake actuator depending on what type of brakes you have. Also be sure to check with the local laws where you live as many states are now requiring all trailer axles to have brakes if over a certain weight. If this is the case I would need to know what axles/brakes you currently have. You will also need a Breakaway Kit # 3802311, Junction Box # 3430001-JBK, and 7-Way # H20046. You may also need a Flexible Brake Line #...

  • How to Measure Trailer Frame Angle for Coupler
  • You'd just have to physically go out to your trailer and measure the angle. So to do this, you'd need to get a protractor or something similar and place it on the edge of the inside on one side of the trailer frame, and check to see if the other inside edge of the frame is parallel with the 50 degree line on the protractor. 50 degrees is the standard angle for trailer frames, so that's why we recommend you start there. If you do happen to have a 32 degree frame then # DM15633-81 will...
